Freelance journalist & editor
My core skill is writing, where I'm able to convey complex technical information in an accessible way, tailored for a specific audience, whether for the beginners and novices that read part-works such as EasyPC, or the more technical audience of PCW's Hands On section. In addition to independent editorial material, I'm able to produce marketing-led copy, and have experience of working on technical documentation.
Besides writing, I'm also an experienced editor, able to commission and edit material and work under my own initiative to fulfil a client's brief. This is a role I've performed for a range of clients, including The Publishing Agency, on whose behalf I spent time working on the Microsoft At Home web site, and Personal Computer World, where I edited around 35 pages of the magazine monthly, for several years.
I'm a fluent public speaker, and have given talks and lectures to small groups on aspects of the internet, as well as appearing on radio and television to discuss computer-related issues.
In addition to writing and editing, I've also been responsible for management duties, including budgeting and the recruitment of staff; these are areas that I'm willing to undertake as part of long or short term projects for clients.

One of my more recent technical documentation jobs was the new manual for Topfield's TF5800 PVR, which was originally written in Korea. The new version represents a considerable improvement, and is based on a structure and layout that I created, in consultation with the client, Turbosat International.
